Academic Enrichment Services Kwong Lee Dow First Year Program

Welcome from Kwong Lee Dow

Welcome to the University of Melbourne and to our KLD First Year Program. As a KLD Young Scholar, you have earned a special place in the University and your membership of the University and of this Program is highly valued.

The KLD First Year Program helps you meet and stay in touch with other KLD Young Scholars. Building contacts and engaging with other Young Scholars with similar experiences, gifts and interests will be mutually beneficial. It will impact on your life in the University and your later life in wonderful and unpredictable ways.

In Semester 1, the program offers a series of lunchtime seminars provided by expert speakers. These will give you a broader perspective on a range of subjects including leadership, public speaking and personal development. Other events and activities within the University will further enrich your first year experience.

In Semester 2, the program will get out and about, with outdoor activities, involvement in community projects and other events. Some of you, particularly if you have come from a regional school, may be invited to go back to your school to encourage younger students to aim high in planning their future study options.

These are optional activities. The KLD First Year Program is not a hurdle requirement of being a KLD student and you are not obliged to attend all the scheduled events. But you do have much to gain by staying involved with this group of fellow students and by enjoying the enrichment activities on offer.

I hope you are challenged and supported as you find your way in this exciting learning environment, so that you establish a good foundation for the future. The KLD First Year Program is designed to provide both stimulating challenges and access to the best available support to enable you to do this.

Good luck and best wishes,

Kwong Lee Dow
